Why paint instead of replace?
If your cabinet boxes are solid, paint can give the kitchen a new look without tearing anything out. You keep the layout you know, and the work stays with the doors, frames and finish.
What we paint
Solid wood and MDF cabinets take paint well after careful cleaning and sanding. Laminate and thermofoil are a different story, so send us a close-up photo for an honest answer.
How kitchen cabinet painting works
Good cabinet paint is mostly preparation, done in a steady order.
- We remove the doors, drawer fronts and hardware, labelling each piece so it goes back in the same spot.
- Degreasing comes next, then sanding or scuffing so the primer can grip.
- If you want a smooth look on oak, grain filling happens at this stage.
- A bonding primer goes on, followed by the finish coats.
- Once the finish has cured, the doors go back on and we adjust the hinges so they close evenly.
Colours and sheens
White, greige, navy and deep green are common choices, but the colour is up to you. Satin and semi-gloss sheens wipe clean more easily than flat paint, and samples help you compare them in your kitchen light.
New hardware and soft-close hinges
Painting is a good moment to change handles or knobs. If new handles need different holes, we fill the old ones before painting.

Timeline and cure time
Paint dries quickly but takes longer to cure fully, so painted doors need gentle use at first. Your quote sets out how long the kitchen is out of use and when the doors go back on.
Caring for painted cabinets
A soft cloth and mild soap keep painted doors clean. Harsh scrubbers and strong cleaners can dull or scratch the finish, especially while the paint is still curing.

Your questions, answered
Will painted cabinets chip?
Any painted surface can chip if it takes a hard knock. Careful cleaning, sanding and a bonding primer help the finish hold up to daily use. Gentle use while the paint cures helps too.
How long will the kitchen be out of use?
That depends on the number of doors and the finish. Paint needs time to cure between coats and before the doors go back on. Your quote sets out the schedule, so you can plan meals around it.
Can you hide oak grain?
Yes, grain filling before primer can give oak a smooth, flat look. Without it, the grain shows through the paint as a texture. Tell us which look you prefer.
Can you paint laminate or thermofoil?
These surfaces are harder to paint than wood or MDF, and peeling thermofoil needs a different fix. Send us a close-up photo, and you’ll get an honest answer.
Do you paint the cabinet boxes too?
Yes, we can paint the visible frames and sides along with the doors, so everything matches. Your quote lists the boxes, doors, drawer fronts and any open shelves included.
Can you change the hardware?
Yes. New handles, knobs or hinges can go on when we put the doors back. If the new handles need different holes, we fill the old ones before painting.
